Civilian hailed as hero in Greene County White River rescue

GREENE CO. – A civilian is being praised for heroic actions after rescuing three individuals from a sinking boat on the White River in Greene County.

On Saturday, May 24, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement responded to a water rescue incident north of the Worthington Public Access Site. According to Indiana Conservation Officer Cody Hollingsworth, three occupants were on board a watercraft when it began taking on water and subsequently capsized.

Fortunately, a citizen nearby in their boat at the time of the accident was able to rescue all three victims quickly. All individuals were transported to a local hospital and reported to be stable.

Assisting the Indiana DNR Law Enforcement in the rescue were the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Worthington Fire Department, and the Greene County Ambulance Service. The incident remains under investigation.
