BEDFORD— Central Church of Christ will host a three-day “Living with Loss Workshop” from June 6 to 8 to help individuals navigate the emotional and spiritual challenges of grief and loss.
The event, held at the church’s location at 1402 12th St., will be led by Dean Miller, a longtime pulpit minister and founder of the Widowhood Workshop. Miller, who has been widowed since 2013, has facilitated grief programs across the country and brings decades of pastoral experience to the sessions.
“Our ‘Living with Loss Workshop’ is for everyone—because everyone suffers loss (and there are all kinds of losses we experience in a broken world),” Miller said. Loss impacts our lives. It causes us to grieve. We’ll be discussing grief, what it does to us, and how we can navigate its troubled waters. We’ll also discuss how to effectively comfort others who are hurting because of their losses.
“For most folks, the loss of their spouse is their greatest loss,” he added. “We’ll discuss that in one session. The only way a good marriage ends is with someone left behind. So, it’s especially important for all married couples to learn about handling that challenging experience.”
The workshop begins Friday, June 6, with identical sessions offered at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., focusing on the theme “Life, Love & Loss.” Saturday’s program starts with registration and a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by three sessions: “What Grief Does to Us” at 9 a.m., “Personal Perspective of Loss” at 10 a.m., and “Love, Marriage, Loss, Love Again?” at 11 a.m.
The event concludes Sunday, June 8, with a Bible class at 9 a.m. titled “What We Ought to Do When We Are Overwhelmed,” followed by a 10 a.m. worship service, “Praise the Lord! . . . No Matter What.” A fellowship meal and a final session, “’ Til the Storm Passes By,” will close the weekend.
Admission is free and open to the public.
