BEDFORD—North Lawrence Community Schools (NLCS), in partnership with Chartwells, is launching an innovative new summer meal service designed to significantly increase food access for children throughout the community. This free Non-Congregate meal program will run from June 2, 2025, to July 25, 2025.
The initiative aims to provide convenient and consistent access to nutritious meals for children during the summer months when school is not in session.
Who Qualifies?
All children aged 18 and younger are eligible to participate in this vital program. Additionally, individuals over 18 who are enrolled in school programs for persons with disabilities may also receive meals. Crucially, children do not need to be enrolled in North Lawrence Community Schools or eligible for free or reduced-price meals, making this program accessible to a wide range of families.
Registration and Pickup Details:
Families must register in advance to participate in the non-congregate meal distribution. Registration can be completed online at forms.office.com/r/LKx9j6yr7b or by scanning the provided QR code. It is important to note that children must be present at the time of pickup to receive their meals.
Meal distribution for the Non-Congregate program will occur at Bedford Middle School, Door #6, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To minimize travel for families, meals will be distributed on two days per week:
- Tuesdays: Families will receive three lunches and three breakfasts.
- Fridays: Families will receive four lunches and four breakfasts.
This distribution schedule ensures that each participating child receives enough food for seven days of two meals per day (breakfast and lunch) with only two pickup trips necessary per week.
On-Site Meal Service at Parkview Primary:
In addition to the Non-Congregate program, NLCS will also offer an on-site meal service at Parkview Primary, Door #1. This service will run Monday through Friday, from June 2nd until June 18th. Breakfast and lunch will be served, with lunch available from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. These meals are intended to be consumed on-site.
