House fire in Redding Township leaves one injured, cause under investigation

SEYMOUR—Firefighters from multiple Jackson County departments battled an intense house fire in Redding Township Monday afternoon, and one resident was treated for smoke inhalation.

The Seymour Fire Department reported that crews were initially dispatched at approximately 1:45 p.m. to a home on Jackson County Road 1100N for what was reported as a basement fire. However, en route, dispatchers updated that the fire had rapidly spread, with the entire structure becoming fully involved.

The Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene and began an exterior attack on the flames. The Seymour Fire Department arrived shortly after with a ladder truck, and firefighters then entered the residence to combat the fire from within. The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes of firefighters’ arrival.

Investigators determined the fire originated in a basement bedroom, but the exact cause remains unknown and is under investigation.

A resident of the home suffered from smoke inhalation and received treatment at the scene from Jackson County medics before being transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for further care.

In addition to Redding Township and Seymour, volunteer fire departments from Vernon Township, Hamilton Township, Jackson/Washington, and Elizabethtown also assisted at the scene.
