Monroe Fire Protection District opens new fire station, enhancing emergency services

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MONROE CO.– The Monroe Fire Protection District (MFD) has announced the opening of a new fire station at 478 E Chambers Pike in Washington Township. This new station signifies a significant investment in the public safety of Washington Township residents and the broader northern Monroe County area. The addition of the station is expected to significantly improve the region’s fire protection, rescue services, and emergency medical services (EMS).

Previously, emergency responses to this part of the county were dispatched from the station on N Old State Road 37, resulting in longer response times. The new facility aims to provide more efficient and timely service, which is especially crucial in the more rural parts of the county.

Station 26 will be staffed 24/7/365 with two firefighters and will house the following equipment:

  • Rescue Engine: For responding to fires, fire alarms, and motor vehicle accidents.
  • Brush/Medical Squad: Specially equipped for wildland fires and EMS emergencies.
  • Water Tender: To provide a vital water supply for firefighting operations in areas without fire hydrants.

The MFD highlighted that most incidents in Washington Township involve emergency medical services, making the presence of two firefighter/EMTs a critical asset in the chain of survival. Firefighters and apparatus from MFD’s seven existing stations and mutual aid partners will also respond for larger-scale incidents. MFD maintains a minimum response of sixteen firefighters and four fire trucks for structure fires. Through closest unit dispatching, the new station will serve as a key resource in protecting lives and property in the northern part of the county.

“This new station will allow us to provide faster and more effective emergency services to Washington Township and surrounding areas,” stated Jeffrey Combs, Assistant Chief of the Monroe Fire Protection District. “With shorter response times and increased resources, we can better protect lives and property while strengthening our ability to serve the residents of Monroe County.”

The Monroe Fire Protection District acknowledged the collaborative effort of various Washington Township Boards, the Monroe Fire Protection District Board of Trustees, and local officials in making the project a reality.

The public is invited to an Open House at the new fire station, located at 478 E Chambers Pike, on Saturday, May 24th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will include grilled burgers and hot dogs, station tours, meet the firefighters, and fire prevention and safety information.
