BEDFORD — Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes will host a series of free public seminars to help individuals and families navigate the complexities of funeral pre-planning. The seminars will take place during the Senior Fair on Wednesday, May 21, at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, located at 508 Fellowship Drive in Bedford.
Three 25-minute sessions are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 10:30 a.m., each covering key topics designed to ease the emotional and financial burden on loved ones during an already difficult time.

“Pre-planning alleviates worries and tension for families in very trying times,” said Phil Thorne, President of Thorne George Family Funeral Homes. “It assures provisions are in place to ease the funeral process for loved ones, emotionally and financially.”
Each seminar will address critical elements of funeral planning, such as determining who has the legal authority to make final arrangements, understanding the difference between pre-arranging and pre-paying for services, and ensuring that final wishes are honored.
“One of the most common sources of confusion and conflict comes from not understanding who has the legal authority to plan a funeral,” said Thorne. “It may not be who you think it is — and that can have lasting consequences for families.”

Participants will learn about the more than 120 questions typically asked during a funeral arrangement conference and explore how pre-planning can reduce stress on families. Additional topics include payment options for pre-arrangements, legal protections for prepaid services, and what to do if a funeral home changes ownership or closes.
All attendees will be entered into drawings for a $100 cash prize! The event is free and open to the public, with no cost or obligation to attend.
