TIPPECANOE CO – Saturday morning, shortly after 9:00 a.m., the Indiana State Police and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 65 near the 163-mile marker. This location is approximately five miles north of State Road 28 and inside the Tippecanoe County line.
Trooper Whitten’s preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 GMC Yukon was traveling northbound on I-65 near the 163-mile marker when it sideswiped a 2020 Isuzu truck. Both vehicles then left the east side of the roadway. The GMC rolled over, ejecting the driver. The Isuzu remained upright and came to rest in a ditch.
The driver of the GMC was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office. The driver’s name is being withheld pending family notification and will be released by the Coroner’s Office later.
Further investigation revealed that, before the crash, Indiana State Police Region 1 Dispatch had received a 9-1-1 call reporting the GMC as driving recklessly. Clinton County deputies and Indiana State Police troopers from the Lafayette Post were en route and attempting to locate the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Isuzu was not injured.
Trooper Whitten was assisted at the scene by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office, Sheffield Township Fire Department, Tippecanoe County EMS, and other first responders.
This crash remains under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
