Indiana State Capitol K9 Krieg is retiring

INDIANAPOLIS- Indiana State Capitol Police K9 Krieg is retiring. He has served the state of Indiana in multiple capacities for the past ten years as an explosives detection dog. K9 Krieg has enhanced the safety for high-profile events such as the Indy 500, Indiana State Fair, Monumental Marathon, and countless events at the Indiana State Capitol.  He has assisted federal, state, and local agencies with explosive detection during warrant services and other investigations.

One of K9 Krieg’s responsibilities was pre-event explosive searches for significant sporting events at Notre Dame, IU, and Purdue.

On most days, K9 Krieg and his partner, Corporal Michael Sarchet, patrol the Indiana Statehouse, Indiana Government Center, and other downtown state properties.

K9 Krieg was the first Indiana State Police Explosive Detection dog, trained in-house by Corporal Sarchet. In his first year, he passed the ATF’s National Odor Recognition Test.

K9 Krieg will now enjoy his retirement living at home with the Sarchet family.
