INDIANA – According to the 2025 summer forecast from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, you might want to pack an umbrella alongside your sunscreen this summer.
While much of the United States is predicted to experience a “scorcher of a summer,” Indiana is expected to have a different weather pattern. The almanac’s forecast map labels Indiana as “Hot and Rainy” for the upcoming season.

The astronomical start of summer, marked by the Summer Solstice, will occur on Friday, June 20, 2025. However, meteorologists define the start of summer as June 1st.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac divides Indiana into two weather regions in its forecast:
Northern and Central Indiana (Lower Lake Region): This area, including the Metro-Indianapolis area, is predicted to have a “warmer than normal” summer. The hottest periods are expected in early to mid-July. The region is also anticipated to see a fair amount of rainfall throughout the summer months:
- June 2025: Potentially 2.5 inches of precipitation, thunderstorms, rain showers, and a few warm and sunny days.
- July 2025: Potentially 4.5 inches of precipitation, with scattered thunderstorms and several hot and sunny days.
- August 2025: Potentially 5.5 inches of precipitation, with scattered thunderstorms, some heavy thunderstorms, and several warm and sunny days.
Southern Indiana (Ohio Valley Region): This part of the state is also forecast to experience warmer-than-normal temperatures and above-average rainfall for the entire season. The hottest periods are predicted for mid-June, early to mid-July, and early August.
Overall, the Old Farmer’s Almanac anticipates the Midwest region, including Indiana, will see temperatures averaging about 4°F above normal this summer. However, unlike many other parts of the country, Indiana is expected to receive significant rain throughout June, July, and August. The almanac advises residents and visitors to take advantage of the sunny days when they appear.
