Spring Mill State Park reopens historic gristmill with special Welcome Weekend celebration

MITCHELL – Spring Mill State Park is celebrating the grand reopening of its beloved gristmill this Saturday and Sunday as part of Indiana State Parks’ annual Welcome Weekend. The iconic gristmill, a centerpiece of the park’s Pioneer Village, has been meticulously renovated over the past year using lumber salvaged from the damage caused by the 2023 tornado at McCormick’s Creek State Park.

Visitors are invited to witness the mill in action on both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gristmill will be grinding corn into cornmeal on the hour, offering a fascinating glimpse into 19th-century life. Freshly ground cornmeal will be available for purchase at the Village Mercantile.

Please note that the standard daily gate fee will be in effect on Saturday, which is $7 for in-state vehicles and $9 for out-of-state vehicles.

However, in recognition of the second day of Welcome Weekend and the opening day of Visit Indiana Week, the daily gate fee will be waived on Sunday, offering free admission to all visitors.

This weekend offers a unique opportunity to experience the newly restored gristmill and explore the rich history of Spring Mill State Park’s Pioneer Village, all while enjoying the festivities of Indiana State Parks’ Welcome Weekend and the start of Visit Indiana Week.
