LAWRENCE CO. – A Gosport woman, Kayla Flynn, 32, is facing a felony theft charge after allegedly stealing and cashing four checks totaling $1,900 from a cleaning client in Lawrence County. According to a Probable Cause Affidavit filed by Lawrence County Police Officer Christian James, the alleged thefts occurred in September 2024.

The male victim filed the report on September 28, 2024, stating that his cleaning lady, Kayla Flynn, had stolen four checks from his residence. He reported that Flynn cashed all four checks: two for $350 each and two for $600 each, totaling $1,900.
According to the victim, Flynn cashed two of the checks at a Crane Credit Union in Greene County and the other two at a Crane Credit Union in Monroe County on September 19, 20, 23, and 26.
The victim informed authorities that he typically contacted Flynn via Facebook Messenger and would pick her up in front of the apartments on Woodview Hills, off State Road 45 in Greene County, to bring her to his home to clean. He stated that he did not know Flynn’s specific address.
Officer James reported attempting to contact Flynn using the phone number provided by the victim, but the phone would only ring. Monroe County authorities were able to provide Flynn with two additional phone numbers. Still, neither was active, leaving investigators without a direct way to contact her at the time of the report.
On October 3, 2024, Officer James contacted Crane Credit Union management, providing the dates and times the checks were cashed at both locations. Management agreed to provide the information to the appropriate personnel.
The following day, Officer James spoke with an official at Crane Credit Union, who indicated he had the necessary video footage but required the correct release forms. The official noted that Flynn had previously been the male victim’s caregiver, so Adult Protective Services (APS) bank release forms would be applicable. These forms were completed and sent to the credit union.
On October 7, 2024, Officer James received the requested videos and a photograph of a person identified as Kayla Flynn cashing one of the checks. These materials, a copy of Flynn’s DMV photo, and pictures of the stolen checks were added to the case file. Officer James stated that Flynn could be identified in the bank videos and photographs by comparing them to her driver’s license photo.
Based on the evidence presented, Officer James concluded there was probable cause to believe that Kayla Flynn committed the theft. The affidavit requests that the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office review the case for potential charges. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was detained on Monday, April 21.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the Probable Cause Affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
