BEDFORD– The Bedford Parks Department is inviting the community to an engaging evening under the stars with their upcoming program, “Stars and Stories.” Scheduled for Tuesday, April 29th at 6:00 p.m., the event will take place at the Upper Shelter House in Otis Park (follow the road to the top of the hill at the Golf Course).
This program is perfect for anyone with an interest in the stars and constellations. The featured speaker, Joachim Ladwig, will share fascinating stories, including the history of the “drinking gourd” (the Big Dipper) and its crucial role in guiding escaping slaves on the Underground Railroad as they navigated their way north through Indiana.

Attendees will delve into the wonders of the night sky, learning about the brightness of Polaris (the North Star) and Jupiter. The program will also explore the concept of circumpolar constellations and the captivating lore surrounding constellations like Orion and Scorpio.
As darkness descends, participants will have the opportunity to observe the stars and constellations firsthand. A telescope will be available, offering enhanced views from the vantage point atop the hill at Otis Park.
The Bedford Parks Department encourages everyone to bring their family and friends for this unique and educational program.
The speaker for the evening is Joachim Ladwig, an astronomy teacher with a wealth of knowledge to share.
Please RSVP by April 28th to the Bedford Parks Department. You can RSVP with Autumn Ray by calling 812-275-5692 or by emailing aray@bedford.in.gov. Don’t miss this chance to connect with the cosmos and learn intriguing stories under the night sky!
