Hero’s Welcome: Injured Orange County Deputy Zac Andry released from hospital

LOUISVILLE, KY & PAOLI, IN –In a heartwarming display of community support, Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Zac Andry, who was critically wounded in the line of duty in January, was released from the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in Louisville on Wednesday afternoon.

The rehabilitation center lobby erupted in cheers as Deputy Andry, seated in a wheelchair, was wheeled out by his wife, Darian Andry, to await his ride home. Staff from Frazier Rehabilitation Institute, along with numerous first responders and community members who had gathered to show their support, applauded the deputy’s progress.

Despite the ongoing recovery journey, Deputy Andry will continue physical therapy thrice weekly in Louisville. Sheriff David Henderson personally escorted Deputy Andry to Orange County, traveling along US 150 East into Paoli and proceeding to French Lick on US Hwy 150/56.

As the sheriff’s, fellow officers’, and first responders’ vehicles entered Orange County, community members lined the roadways, offering a moving hero’s welcome to their returning colleague. The show of solidarity underscored the deep respect and care for Deputy Andry within the local public safety community.

Deputy Andry sustained critical injuries in a shooting incident on January 3rd. He was shot four times, including a life-threatening head wound, during a traffic stop at the intersection of US 150 and State Road 56. The suspect in the shooting, Austin Schepers, fled the scene but was later killed by law enforcement in Louisville.

Despite the arduous road to recovery ahead, Darian Andry has consistently expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support, prayers, and outpouring of love from the community. She lovingly described her husband as her “miracle and superhero,” highlighting his resilience and strength.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department continues fundraising to support the Andry family during this challenging time. Sheriff Henderson has affirmed that Deputy Andry will always have a place within the department, emphasizing the unwavering support for their injured colleague.
