Senator Eric Koch’s Williams Dam legislation signed by governor

STATEHOUSE Gov. Mike Braun recently signed into law a bill authored by State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) to protect Williams Dam.

Williams Dam

Senate Enrolled Act 426 prohibits the Williams Dam from closure, partial closure, or removal if such action would impact the provision of water utility service to the public or the supply of water to one or more private water wells.

Senator Eric Koch

“I am grateful my colleagues and the governor have supported my efforts to address the concerns of constituents in the Williams area and elsewhere regarding the potential dam closure, specifically the potential impact on both public and private water supplies in the area,” said Senator Koch, chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities. “While an Indiana Department of Natural Resources study will look at potential impacts, protecting our local water supply should be among the highest priorities.”

SEA 426 passed with bipartisan support in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Koch is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, the ranking member of the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology and Judiciary, and a member of the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He represents Senate District 44, which includes Brown, Jackson, Lawrence, and Orange counties and portions of Monroe County.
