Obituary: Sara ‘Sally’ Brooks

July 11, 1941 – March 22, 2025

Sally Brooks, 83, of Seymour, passed away at the Schneck Medical Center in Seymour on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with her family by her side.

Sally was born on July 11, 1941, in North Vernon, IN, the daughter of Norman Albert “Pip” and Katherine Elizabeth (Padgett) Miller.  She was a 1959 North Vernon High School graduate in North Vernon, IN. She married John J. Brooks on May 1, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They were happily married for 47 years.

Sally was a homemaker and an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. The family was everything to her. She enjoyed cooking, playing in multiple bridge groups, bowling in a Tuesday morning league, and watching sports – especially the Chicago Cubs. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon, where she grew up, and later, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour. She also enjoyed volunteering with The Daughter of Isabelle. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Her children survive Sally, Tom Brooks of Seymour, Susan (Jason) Stuckwisch of Seymour, and Elizabeth (Stephen) McTighe of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Spencer McTighe, Ryan McTighe, Natalie McTighe, Ty Stuckwisch and Liza Stuckwisch; three brothers, Jack (Ann) Miller of Carmel, Joe (Debbie) Miller of Sarasota, FL, and Mike (Lori) Miller of North Vernon; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Katherine Miller, and her husband, John J. Brooks.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with Father Daniel Staublin and Deacon Mike East officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral mass on Wednesday, March 26, 2025,
at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sally’s memory to the St. Ambrose Catholic School or St.
Vincent de Paul Church.
