BEDFORD—The Bedford Altrusa Club held its March meeting on the 10th at Southland Church of Christ. Members reviewed recent activities and planned upcoming community projects.

Fannie Lee reported that the Altrusans’ participation in the recent Women’s Expo was a resounding success. Members ran the popular Flamingo Bingo, sold nuts, and provided valuable information to attendees. Lee also proposed a new volunteer initiative at Stonebridge, which the club will consider.
Continuing their commitment to local care facilities, Loretta Bailey delivered 20 magazines to each of the five nursing homes, providing residents with reading materials.

Sammie Polley provided an update on the club’s ongoing project with the Bedford Parks Department. The department is nearing completion of the final order for new equipment for the city pool, which will be constructed using recycled plastic caps collected and sorted by Altrusa members. The club has accumulated 3,280 pounds of caps for this environmentally friendly project.
Susie Turner and Kelly Myers reported on the continued success of the Little Free Library in Avoca. Children’s books are in high demand, highlighting the community’s enthusiasm for reading. Additionally, Turner informed the group about the upcoming Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Tea on April 26. The members voted to sponsor a $200 table at the event, demonstrating their support for local cancer patients.
President Bill Barnes adjourned the meeting. The next Altrusa meeting will be held on April 14 at 5:30 PM at Southland Church of Christ.
