ROCKPORT – South Spencer High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a potential bomb threat and active shooter situation. Authorities have since determined the reports to be unfounded, and the school is safe.

The incident began around 1 p.m., prompting a rapid response from the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Indiana State Police. Officers conducted a thorough search of the school and the surrounding area.
Following a comprehensive investigation, investigators determined that there is no credible threat. No explosive devices, weapons, or suspicious individuals were located.
Authorities believe the initial reports originated from a hoax call made to emergency services. The situation has been deemed safe, and the lockdown has been lifted.
The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that all threats are taken seriously and public safety remains their top priority. An investigation into the source of the false report is underway. Anyone found responsible for making the hoax call could face serious legal consequences, including charges related to making false statements or terroristic threats.
