LAWRENCE CO. – Lawrence County Highway Director Brian Sowder announced the continuation of environmental oversight at the former Lawrence County landfill, located next to the county government complex.
The county has renewed its contract with AECOM Technical Services Inc. to provide groundwater monitoring, statistical data analysis, and reporting. AECOM has provided these services since 2008, ensuring compliance with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) post-closure care requirements for the closed landfill. Sowder indicated he has contacted IDEM to inquire about when the county can discontinue the monitoring but is awaiting a response.
In addition to the ongoing landfill monitoring, highway crews are actively cleaning and repairing ditches, replacing and repairing culvert pipes, and removing debris left by recent flooding. Today, crews are working on Stonington Road in Mitchell.
