Jasper Park and Recreation Department offers free educational field trips and tours

JASPER– The Jasper Park and Recreation Department offers free educational field trips and group tours to four local historical and cultural sites within walking distance of the Riverwalk, shelter houses, and Lion’s Park. These hands-on learning experiences are available for charter bus groups, classrooms, homeschools, and other organized groups from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore a variety of local landmarks, including a ride aboard the Spirit of Jasper Train, where they can tour the historic depot. Visitors can also experience a working demonstration of the grist mill at the Jasper City Mill and step back in time to one of Dubois County’s first three schoolhouses, where they can create their walnut ink bookmark while learning about early education.

At the Schaeffer Barn, guests can witness demonstrations of early farming and woodworking techniques and even try their hand at farm chores, such as making feed for chickens.

Other educational opportunities are available at The Parklands, providing diverse interactive experiences for all ages.
