Weed Wrangles: Restoring urban greenspace

BLOOMINGTON – Weed Wrangles, a community-driven effort to restore urban greenspaces, calls on volunteers to help combat invasive species and support the growth of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers on January 11, 18, and 25. These volunteer events provide a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on conservation work, helping ensure sunlight can reach young native plants that are being outcompeted by invasive species.

The Weed Wrangles will take place at various “Adopt-a-Greenspace” locations throughout the city. Volunteers will learn how to identify invasive plants, control their spread, and properly dispose of them. Specific locations and time slots can be found in the event details.

Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will be involved in a variety of tasks, which may include bending, hiking, climbing, and using sharp tools. Gloves and tools will be provided to all volunteers.

Age Requirements:
This event is open to individuals aged 12 and up. An adult must accompany volunteers under 14. Those under 18 must have an Underage Waiver of Liability signed by a parent or guardian, which can be completed online.
