A Focus on Fiscal Discipline and Transparency

Nieshalla, who was appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb in 2023 to fill the unexpired term of former Comptroller Tera Klutz, reflected on her tenure overseeing Indiana’s financial accounting, payroll, and fund distribution system.

“When I took office, I devoted myself to continuing our nationally recognized financial reporting and to advancing transparency for one of the brightest economic beacons in America — the State of Indiana,” Nieshalla said. “Indiana has shown the nation what fiscal discipline looks like — healthy reserves, low debt, a balanced budget, well-funded pensions, and a AAA credit rating — and we stand as an inspiration to the federal government and other states struggling with massive debt.”

Nieshalla also highlighted her administration’s work expanding public transparency for federal funding brought into the state, commending the career staff in the State Comptroller’s office for their precision and commitment to public service.

Call for Party Reflection Following Election Night Results

Addressing broader election outcomes, Nieshalla acknowledged significant headwinds faced by Republican candidates nationwide on Tuesday.

“It was a tough night last night, not just here, but for Republicans across the country,” Nieshalla noted. “It hurts, but we can’t let disappointment turn into retreat. Now is the time to evaluate what happened and why, and then get right back in the fight to keep our Republic free and Indiana strong.”

Preparing for the Administrative Handover

Nieshalla extended gratitude to her campaign team, volunteers, supporters, and her family, including her husband, Chris, for their backing throughout her term and statewide campaign.

She reaffirmed that her office remains focused on maintaining high standards of state financial reporting through the remainder of her term to ensure incoming Comptroller-elect Jessica Bailey and her team experience a smooth, professional handover.
