Indiana State Police join 15-state interdiction effort to disrupt criminal transportation routes

INDIANA — The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) of the Indiana State Police recently concluded its role in “Operation Guardian,” a massive, multi-state criminal interdiction patrol designed to intercept illicit actors exploiting regional transit corridors.

The coordinated three-day initiative, which ran from October 26 to October 28, 2026, united Indiana troopers with law enforcement personnel from 15 participating states. Partnering agencies spanned a broad geographic corridor, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas.

Operation Guardian specifically targeted secondary highways and bypass routes—thoroughfares frequently utilized by criminal networks attempting to evade high-visibility enforcement on major interstate systems.

During the three-day operational push, Indiana State Police CVED units logged significant enforcement activity targeting narcotics trafficking and criminal transit:

  • Criminal Arrests: 28 total arrests
  • Criminal Charges: 36 total charges filed (18 felony charges and 18 misdemeanor charges)
  • Narcotics Seizures:
    • Cannabis: 124.5 pounds seized

    • Other Illicit Substances: 4.5 grams seized

Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Safety Inspections

Alongside criminal interdiction, troopers conducted rigorous safety and compliance checks on commercial motor vehicles operating along secondary routes:

    • Out-of-Service Vehicles: 85
