BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Police Department has partnered with federal law enforcement agencies as the investigation into the weekend shooting on Kirkwood Avenue continues to develop.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have joined local detectives to assist in the ongoing case. Federal investigators are helping collect additional evidence, gather witness statements, and process seized firearms and spent shell casings recovered from the scene.
Authorities reported a positive update regarding those injured in the early-morning shooting on November 1, 2026.
Six of the seven individuals who suffered gunshot wounds have been released from the hospital. One remaining victim, a 27-year-old man, is still hospitalized in stable condition.
Investigators confirmed that the seven injured victims—four males and three females ranging in age from 17 to 27—are not Indiana University students. Six provided home addresses in Indianapolis and one in Greenwood, and stated they had traveled to Bloomington to celebrate Halloween.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on November 1 following a disturbance within a large crowd in the 400 block of E. Kirkwood Avenue.
Investigators recovered shell casings from two different calibers of firearms at the scene.
One of the injured victims was found in possession of an AK-47 pistol, which officers collected.
An 18-year-old Indianapolis man fleeing from officers with an AR-15 style handgun was taken into custody near Dunn Meadow. He is currently jailed on charges of resisting law enforcement and unlawful possession of a firearm, and has a pending felony weapon charge in Hendricks County.
Detectives are continuing to review surveillance footage from the area. Anyone with information or video of the incident is asked to contact Detective Chris Scott at 812-339-4477 or via email at scottc@bloomington.in.gov.
