City of Bloomington opens volunteer registration for post-Thanksgiving Holiday Market

BLOOMINGTON — The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to help staff its upcoming annual Holiday Market, scheduled for Saturday, November 28, 2026, at Showers Common.

Organizers are looking for community members to assist with a variety of duties during the event, including setup, teardown, conducting participant surveys, and staffing the information tent and artist booths.

The market, which features locally grown farm products and hand-crafted items by regional artisans accompanied by seasonal music, will take place the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Volunteers are advised to ensure they will be in town for the holiday weekend before signing up.

Two volunteer shifts are available:

  • Morning Shift: 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (10 spots available)
  • Afternoon Shift: 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (10 spots available)

Check-in will take place at the tent outside the entrance of City Hall, located at 401 N. Morton St. On-site training will be provided.

Organizers note that because average temperatures for the Holiday Market typically hover in the 20s, volunteers should dress warmly.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Participants under 18 are required to have an underage waiver of liability signed by a parent or guardian. Additionally, individuals planning to use the volunteer opportunity for Pre-Trial Diversion must complete a background check form and receive prior approval from the Community Relations Coordinator for hours to count toward their service requirement.

Interested individuals can sign up online through the City of Bloomington volunteer console or contact event organizers at artinparks@bloomington.in.gov for more information.
