SEYMOUR — The man accused of opening fire inside a southern Indiana public library in April 2025 has agreed to plead guilty to seven counts of attempted murder, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Emiliano Cuevas Bravo faces a maximum sentence of 120 years in prison under the terms of the plea agreement announced by Jackson County Prosecutor Lynsey Fleetwood. Cuevas Bravo is scheduled to enter his plea during a court hearing on Nov. 23.
The charges stem from an April 30, 2025, attack at the Jackson County Public Library in Seymour, where Cuevas Bravo opened fire with a shotgun, injuring a library employee and pointing the firearm at several others inside. According to court records, the situation was brought to an end when a bystander tackled Cuevas Bravo, preventing him from causing further harm and stopping him from setting a fire inside the building.
According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators revealed that Cuevas Bravo had originally planned to carry out a mass attack at Seymour High School targeting the School Resource Officer and students before ultimately altering his target to the nearby public library.
In a statement posted to social media, Prosecutor Fleetwood emphasized the severity of the attack and the commitment of her office to securing justice.
“By the grace of God, no lives were lost on April 30, 2025,” Fleetwood said. “However, the absence of fatalities does not diminish the gravity of the alleged conduct or the extraordinary danger to which innocent individuals were exposed. The allegations in this case involve a profound disregard for human life and warrant the most serious consideration under the law. From the outset, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has approached this prosecution with the utmost seriousness and an unwavering commitment to pursuing justice.”
Cuevas Bravo remains in custody pending his formal plea hearing.
