Bloomington Police investigate window damage at Monroe County Democratic Headquarters amid campaign tensions

BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington police are investigating an incident at the Monroe County Democratic Party headquarters after a meeting room window was discovered cracked on Thursday amid rising political tensions during early voting.

Party officials suspect an object was thrown at the building while volunteers worked inside, though the exact cause and timing remain unclear. Vice Chair Rob Council stated that while the incident is unsettling, the party is increasing security measures out of an abundance of caution and pushing forward.

The occurrence highlights broader statewide concerns regarding political intimidation ahead of Election Day. Up north, Republican U.S. Representative Victoria Spartz recently reported a wave of stolen and replaced campaign signs. Local leaders are urging civility, with State Senator Shelli Yoder warning that such acts threaten to discourage public involvement in the democratic process.

The Bloomington Police Department confirmed that a detective has been assigned to the active investigation. Authorities found no debris or objects near the damaged glass and are asking anyone with relevant video footage or information to contact BPD.
