BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown Central Schools are operating under an increased police presence following threats of violence targeted at a student over the weekend.
According to officials from the Brownstown Police Department and school administrators, local dispatchers received a call Sunday evening regarding a direct threat of violence against a specific student at Brownstown Central High School.
Law enforcement officers and school authorities launched a joint investigation immediately Sunday night. Out of an abundance of caution, officials decided to step up security measures and place extra police officers on campus across school facilities.
School administrators proactively reached out to parents to notify them of the situation and the enhanced safety protocols. To give families flexibility during the investigation, school officials confirmed that parents who choose to keep their children home will have those absences fully excused.
Police and district officials continue to investigate the source and credibility of the threat to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
