Mitchell’s Chase Briscoe wins Bank of America 400, firmly in NASCAR Championship contention

MITCHELL — Small-town pride continues to swell as Mitchell native Chase Briscoe continues to make his mark on NASCAR’s biggest stage.

Briscoe captured the Bank of America 400 on Sunday, holding off teammate Christopher Bell and the field to earn his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victory. The win gives the Mitchell racer back-to-back trips to victory lane and further establishes him as a contender in the sport’s premier racing series.

The race came down to a tense closing stretch. With 67 laps remaining, Tyler Reddick got loose on the track. Although Reddick saved his car, the incident forced Gray Gaulding to spin into the wall, bringing out a caution flag and setting up a critical restart.

When the green flag returned, Briscoe, Bell and Denny Hamlin surged ahead of Kyle Larson, creating a battle among the front-runners for the victory.

Briscoe emerged on top, holding off the field despite making contact with Bell, his teammate, during the fight for the win. The result gave the No. 19 team its second consecutive victory and continued Briscoe’s impressive stretch of racing.

The win also delivered a significant boost in the championship standings. Briscoe climbed two positions to fourth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, putting himself in a stronger position as the championship fight continues.

With two straight victories behind him and a fourth-place position in the championship standings, Briscoe has given his hometown plenty of reason to keep watching as the NASCAR Cup Series season moves forward.
