Rep. May: State awards Mitchell Community Schools with improvement grant

STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) today announced Mitchell Community Schools will receive $4.5 million as part of Indiana’s Next Generation School Improvement Grant program.

Mitchell Community Schools will receive $500,000 as first-year planning funds, with $4 million committed over the following three years.

May said the competitive award reflects the district’s commitment to finding new ways to support students and strengthen its schools.

“Local educators know their students and understand what they need to succeed,” May said. “This grant will give Mitchell Community Schools the resources to develop a thoughtful plan and put it into action. Being only one of four recipients statewide is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks highly of the district’s leadership, educators, and commitment to students.”

Administered by the Indiana Department of Education, the Next Gen School Improvement Grant program is a federally funded program supporting schools identified for Comprehensive Support and Improvement and Targeted Support and Improvement under Indiana’s Every Student Succeeds Act Plan.

Of the 47 schools that applied for the latest round of funding, four received awards. Grant recipients will use the first year to plan their proposed improvements before moving into a three-year implementation period.
