BNL settles into 17th in state golf finals

BATTLE GROUND – Bedford North Lawrence settled into 17th place after the first round of the IHSAA state championship during girls high school golf action on Friday.

The Stars shot a team total of 377 in the 18-team field at Battle Ground. Zionsville claimed the overnight lead with a sensational score of 293, building a 15-shot lead over Carmel heading into the final round.

Sammie Nusbaum paced BNL with an 85 that included five double bogeys. Emma Voris posted 87 with a birdie on 14, plus three scores of double or higher. Kadynn Canada (94) and Bella Warren (111) completed the team scoring, while freshman Bella Montgomery carded 114.

Zionsville’s Taylor Snively, who set a state record with a 59 in the sectional, fired a 5-under for a three-stroke lead over Ressie Lemmon of Mount Vernon (Fortville) in the race for medalist

The final round is set for Saturday.
