INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana State Troopers are investigating a crash on I-465 northbound north of Washington Street on the east side of Indianapolis involving a school bus and a pickup truck.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. and involved a collision between a school bus and an Indiana State Police pick-up truck. The bus rolled onto its side, resting on the concrete median barrier. The pick-up sustained heavy front-end damage from hitting the concrete wall.
The circumstances that led to the crash are still under investigation. ISP Crash Reconstructionists are currently on scene along with dozens of first responders.
There were 24 students and three adults on the bus at the time of the crash. The three adults and eight children were initially transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining children were subsequently transported to a local hospital to be checked out and reunited with their families. School officials were on scene and were working to notify families of the involved children.
There were two on-duty Indiana State Troopers inside the pickup truck. They were both transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Assisting with this crash was a large response from the Indianapolis Fire Department and the Indianapolis EMS, along with INDOT, IMPD, and Wayne Township School Police.
