BEDFORD — A Bedford woman was issued a misdemeanor court summons following an alleged shoplifting incident at Walmart on Sept. 18.
Kayla R. Terrell, 30, of Bedford, was cited for theft under $750, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Captain Max Uebelhoer, officers were dispatched to the Bedford Walmart at 3200 John Williams Boulevard at approximately 7:47 p.m. regarding a female detained in the store’s Asset Protection office.
Store security reported that Terrell had failed to properly scan and pay for multiple items in her shopping cart. After being advised of her Miranda rights, Terrell told police she was aware she may not have properly scanned some items at checkout. However, she claimed she was unaware that additional items had been concealed, attributing the concealed merchandise to an unidentified male who was shopping with her.
Asset Protection staff confirmed that a male companion had been with Terrell in the store but continued walking out when security intercepted her. Terrell declined to provide officers with the male’s identity, and he was not located at the scene. Police noted that the male appeared to have left the area, leaving Terrell behind without transportation.
Terrell signed a formal trespass notice while at the store, barring her from returning to Walmart property.
Officers initially issued Terrell a summons containing an incorrect court date and released her from the scene. On Sept. 20, Capt. Uebelhoer located Terrell at her residence, provided her with an updated summons, and recorded the interaction.
Terrell is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County Superior Court I on Oct. 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Under Indiana law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
