Charles Ray Bliss, 74, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Majestic Care of Bedford.
He was born in Cecil County, Bainbridge, Maryland, on November 9, 1951, to the late Billy Ray Bliss and Beulah May Bliss. He married Rebecca Anne Alhorn in 1985, and she survives.
Charles was of the Methodist faith and attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He graduated from Bedford High School, with the class of 1970, and completed some college. Charles was an Indiana State Police DOT Inspector for 41 years. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his pets. He enjoyed working on projects around his log cabin home. He also loved going to see his grandparents’ farm on the Ohio River in New Amsterdam, Indiana.
Charles enjoyed his well-known Army truck, John Deere tractors, Steve Kinser sprint car racing, NASCAR, and IU sports. He also loved country music and bluegrass.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Rebearea Bliss; his daughter, Elizabeth (Matthew) Martindale of Bloomington; his son, Andrew W. Bliss of Xenia, Ohio; his grandchildren, Nicholas Martindale, Lydia Martindale, Alexander Martindale, and Atticus Martindale; his aunt and uncle, Norma and Theodore Cotner of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Beulah Bliss, and his brother, Glen Bliss.
Funeral services for Charles Ray Bliss will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 818 18th Street, Bedford, with Pastor Philip Thorne officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
