Homer Phillips, 90, of Springville, passed away on September 20, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born February 29, 1936, in Wayne County, Kentucky, he was the son of Bart Willie and Nancy (Kidd) Phillips. Homer married Delores Kathryn Flynn on December 31, 1956, and she survives.
Homer was a member of Oak Grove Pentecostal Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, metal detecting, and visiting the Smoky Mountains. He also enjoyed mowing grass and growing a big garden.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Delores Phillips; son, Tim Phillips of Grave Switch, Kentucky; daughter, Montra (Charles) Myers of Bedford; six grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Gulley, Tyler (Shelby) Reinhardt, Haleigh (Ceasar) LaBauve, Allison Phillips, Amanda Phillips, Christina (Andrew) Ward; great-grandchildren, Morgan Gulley, Camden Gulley, Kason Gulley, Adelyn Gulley, Jordan Crone, Corwin Guthrie, Aidan Ward, Kaden Ward, Annalee Ward, and little baby LaBauve expected in December; one brother, Ozie (Mary Sue) Phillips of Monticello, Kentucky; a sister, Lucille Bond of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Dennis Phillips, three brothers: Carlis, Eugene, and Vinton, five sisters: Dora, Alta, Gertie, Lyda, and Judy, in-laws: Bennie and Ethel Flynn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24th, at Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Larry Hawkins and Brother Larry Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at Day & Carter Mortuary.
Homer always said that in lieu of flowers, he would rather help a child in need; donations can be made to Operation Christmas Child or your children’s charity of choice.
