MITCHELL — Two Lexington, Kentucky, residents were arrested late Sunday, September 6th, following a traffic stop on State Road 37 that yielded marijuana, paraphernalia, and suspected prescription legend drugs.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Mitchell Police Officer Phillip Emery, the incident occurred at approximately 11:43 p.m. Officer Emery was traveling northbound on State Road 37 near State Road 60 West when he observed a southbound white Chevrolet van operating with a headlight out.
After turning to follow the vehicle, Officer Emery observed the van drift partially into an adjacent lane without signaling before correcting its position. Officer Emery initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over just south of the State Road 37 and State Road 60 East intersection.
Officers identified the driver as Elias Ferman, 28, and the passenger as Casey Bedolla, 28, both of Lexington, Kentucky.
While assisting at the scene, Officer C. Blackwell detected the odor of marijuana coming from the passenger side of the van. Upon questioning by officers, both Ferman and Bedolla admitted to having marijuana inside the vehicle.
During a subsequent search of the van, officers located:
- Approximately 12.8 grams of suspected marijuana and THC paraphernalia
- Approximately 1 gram of suspected legend drugs (white, rectangular pills broken into sections, consistent with Alprazolam)
- Approximately 1.15 grams of suspected legend drugs (peach, round pills with markings)
After being advised of their Miranda rights, both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where they were remanded to the custody of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
Both Ferman and Bedolla face two counts of possession of a legend drug and possession of marijuana.
