Scottsburg scoots to 4-1 win over sluggish Stars

BNL’s Levi Thompson posted the lone win for the Stars during a 4-1 loss at Scottsburg.

SCOTTSBURG – Scottsburg swept the doubles while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.

The Stars, coming off a long battle at Paoli on Monday, could not recapture that magic or energy.

The Warriors won close first sets on both doubles courts before pulling away. Brody Moon and Eli Moffatt stopped Asher Thompson and Jackson Corey 7-5, 6-3 at No.1, while Lane Harris and Jackson Donohue topped Trey Kiser and Traeden Robinson 6-4, 6-1 at No.2.

“Doubles didn’t have the match they wanted,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “I loved watching them fighting out there on the court, but we just made too many silly errors. We have to cut those out or it’ll hurt us in the conference and sectional.”

Levi Thompson posted the lone win for BNL as he rolled past Sean Gregg 6-1, 6-1 at No.3 singles.

“Levi was playing great, he was continuing his dominate game,” Dillman said. “He didn’t want to go to a third set, so he locked in and got the job done. You have to do that sometimes, have a quick match and get a win.”

Scottsburg won the top singles as Jarin Luttrell handled Laedon Jones 6-0, 6-2 at No.1, while Emmitt Zeigenbein defeated Aden Ralston 6-1, 6-4 at No.2.

“I was hoping the outcome was a little closer than what the score shows,” Dillman said. “We played two or three hours last night, and it showed today. The guys were a little sluggish but still moving better than they have in the past.”

The Stars (6-6) will host Salem and celebrate Senior Night on Thursday.
