Paige Voigtschild

NASHVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence’s Paige Voigtschild finished 13th in the girls Elite race during the annual Eagle Classic girls cross country event at Brown County on Saturday.

Claire Voigtschild also competed in the top-tier race and finished 29th in a field of 100 runners. Paige clocked a personal-best time of 18:40.3, while Claire crossed the line in 19:29.2. Carmel’s Annabel Pollert won that event in 16:58.7.

”These girls just keep getting faster,” BNL coach Amy Greenan said. “They were in the Elite race and proved that they belong there. Paige competed the entire race and had a fantastic finish. Claire was just a second or two off the huge PR she had last week, so she’s on a hot streak.”

The rest of the Stars competed in the girls Varsity division and finished 22nd in a 33-team field with 534 points. Terre Haute South won that title with 141 points. Ashlynn York was BNL’s top scorers, finishing 30th in 21:50.3. Maggie Minton was 54th in 22:29.9.

“Ashlynn Is learning to stay engaged with the race, and continuing to pass people is vital,” Greenan said. “She’s getting the hang of it. Everything seems to be going in the right direction for this team.”

Tate McFarland

In the boys Varsity division, BNL finished 24th in a field of 37 teams with 564 points. Wabash won that team crown with 133.

Hayden Rich was the top finishers for the Stars, crossing in 34th place in 17:55.1. Tate McFarland was 72nd (18:28.3). Wabash’s Ezra Church was the individual winner in 16:43.9.

“Hayden put together a strong race and finished really well,” BNL coach Nick Boyd said. “Tate and Linkin (Guthrie) really have had a nice week and that showed. Having Sam Strauser back in the lineup was a nice boost as well.

“As a team, the boys competed hard today, and I’m proud of the effort they’ve shown throughout the week. We’re looking forward to seeing how we continue to develop over the next few weeks.”

BNL will compete in the Ray Gerkin Invitational at Jennings County on Sept. 19.
