On September 08, 2026, Elsie Mae (Nikirk) Webb peacefully slipped away to heaven for a joyful reunion with her Saviour and loved ones, leaving a large, devoted family and group of friends who will miss her kind, sweet, but determined presence. Her lasting, powerful legacy was one of love, faithfulness, perseverance, and hope in serving God.
Services with visitation will be at Day & Carter Mortuary on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Monday, September 14, 2026, starting at noon, with a service at 2:00 p.m., with Pastors TJ Skiles and Rodney Reynolds co-officiating. Elsie will be buried beside her husband at Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca.
In lieu of flowers or keepsakes, the family asks that friends consider memorial contributions in Elsie’s name for maintenance at two family cemeteries, Hilltop and Patton Hill. Contributions can be made to the Facebook page “Elsie Webb Ever Loved Fund” or to Day & Carter for the same purpose.
Elsie was born on May 17, 1928, to Isaac and Lizzie (Butler) Nikirk in Lawrence County, Indiana. On April 6, 1947, she married Everett Dale Webb, who preceded her in death on July 09, 1988.
Elsie attended Fayetteville School and then graduated from Oolitic High School. She enjoyed attending reunions for both schools and was already asking her family to make plans for her to attend the Oolitic reunion in October. She worked in her father’s grocery store on Main Street in Oolitic until she married Everett.
Mrs. Webb was a devoted wife and homemaker. She succeeded in making every dollar Everett earned stretch to provide for her family and occasionally feed a Sunday dinner of fried chicken or beef roast, and vegetables to friends or family.
Elsie and Everett became Christians early in their married life. They attended Hilltop Pentecostal Church for several years and then were part of the original founders of what became the First Pentecostal Church of God, 2nd and M Streets, Bedford. She was Treasurer of the PLA (Pentecostal Ladies Auxiliary) for a while and enjoyed her monthly escapes to visit with her church lady friends. Later, the church moved to the Judah area and became Cornerstone Worship Center. She was the longest member of that organization and was able to faithfully attend until the spring of this year. Heartfelt thanks go to her daughter-in-law, JoAnn Webb, for providing transportation until Elsie was no longer able to get in and out of her car. In recent years, she often attended Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church on Lafayette Ave. with her daughter Jeanna and her family.
Elsie gave birth to six children. Four sons: Gary (M Jolene) Webb, Wichita, KS., Davie (Teresa) Webb, both deceased, buried at Patton Hill. Eddie, deceased, buried at Hilltop, (JoAnn) Webb, Springville, and Danny Webb, Oolitic. Two daughters, Karen (Joe) Barger, Needmore, and Jeanna (Gregory) Flynn, Bedford. Elsie, Mam-Mam, cherished her youngest and only Indiana granddaughter, Jillian, and helped to raise her in the
Oolitic home that Everett had provided.
She found simple joy in raising her children, gardening to grow vegetables to eat and flowers to enjoy, cooking and baking, putting delicious, nourishing, and colorful meals on the table for her hard-working husband and growing kids. She looked forward to adventures with her family. The couple started their family off on adventures on many summer Sunday afternoons, after Church, with a big red wiener roast at a roadside picnic table. The meal would be accompanied by potato salad, pork & beans, chips and cream cheese garlic dip (thin, to make it stretch for a big family), sweet tea, and a simple dessert. Followed by wading in a nearby creek or fishing in a pond. Later adventures included a ride in the front bucket of Greg’s backhoe to the back of the Flynn & Sons business property to get a Christmas tree. Another trip to a worksite resulted in climbing a dirt pile to grab a grapevine and just hold it, with Jeanna scolding her with “do not swing,” but, of course, that 76-year-old kid-at-heart DID swing. She continued to “swing” into her 90s during a favorite activity, leaf-looking, which included a stop at McCormick’s Creek Park for a tire-swing ride. There she joyfully watched and encouraged her daughters, who also inherited the kid-at-heart trait, as they played on the playground equipment. There are pictures! As a child, she loved to climb trees, where her love for bird-watching was “hatched”. Her most recent adventure was a steam- engine train ride in the Colorado Rockies.
Elsie impacted many (maybe all) people she encountered. She was a gifted, wise listener and led by example. She loved talking on the telephone to friends and family, near and far! She spent many hours praying for or with her loved ones.
Surviving to cherish her memory, her sister, Betty (Kenny) Speer, Oolitic, and to continue her tradition to be “kids who have fun” along with her two sons and two daughters are her especially close nieces, Carol Parish, Marsha Enochs, Vallerie Nikirk, Wendy Butterfield, and nephew, Larry Webb. We must also include a lifelong friend of Danny’s, Kevin Bullock, who spent a lot of time at Elsie’s and hunting or fishing with the boys and is considered another brother.
In addition, her Kansas family: Grands, Jennifer (Kyle) White, Shenneah (Josh) Parsons, Great-grands, Gavin, Jaxon White, and Brielle (Devon) Nicholson. Gabriella (Braden) Barker, great-great-grands, Everett Webb and Wyatt Barker. Indiana family: Grands, Toby (Brandi) Webb, Heltonville, Darren (Leafa) Burns, Bloomington, Bradley (Kelly Sunun) Barger, Needmore, Tyler (Kayla) Webb, Lake, Wales, FL, Bryce Webb, Springville, Matthew (Amanda) Flynn, Bedford, Michael (Mikaela) Flynn, Bedford, and Jillian Webb, Oolitic. Great-grands, Brittani (Webb) Baker, who gave her the distinction of becoming “GRANDMA-GREAT”, Traven (Brandalon) Webb, Brandon Burns, Daphne Ziliak (aka Lindsey Burns), Darren Dwight, Jr., Alexzandria, Milena Burns, and Barrett Flynn, Elsie’s youngest playmate. Great-great-grands, Emberlynn & Berklee Baker, Brykton & Baylor Webb.
There are many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who loved “Aunt Elsie” and always loved on her.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Everett, sons, Eddie, Davie, daughter-in- law, Teresa, and siblings; Warren, Walter, Wendell, Jerry, Mike Nikirk and Marilyn Kay (Nikirk) Rathsman.
The family extends their heartfelt and immense gratitude to the staff at Day & Carter and StoneBridge Health Campus and all those in the health care and religious community who cared for, supported, and encouraged Sweet, Miss Elsie with such compassion and kindness. A special thank you to her roommate, Carolyn Hackney, who helped Elsie in every way possible and made Elsie’s life’s mission complete by rededicating her life to Christ a few weeks ago.
