Juvenile dies in ORV accident in Dekalb County

DEKALB COUNTY – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred yesterday evening near the town of Auburn.

At approximately 6:38 p.m., Dekalb County Communications received a 911 call reporting an ORV accident with injury on private property near the 5400 block of County Road 52.

The initial investigation indicates that a 14-year-old juvenile was operating an off-road minibike when he attempted to avoid a collision with a go-kart. The juvenile was ejected from the minibike. The minibike continued sliding, struck the go-kart, and then struck the ejected juvenile. The juvenile was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Life-saving efforts were performed on scene but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.

Conservation Officers were assisted at the scene by the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson Township Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Indiana State Police, and the Dekalb County Coroner’s Office.
