DEARBORN COUNTY – Today, a Moores Hill man faces an initial appearance in court after being charged with multiple charges related to a June 2026 Dearborn County crash that claimed the lives of a Milan, Indiana couple and sent their two children to area hospitals with serious injuries.Â
The crash, investigated by Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, occurred on June 12, 2026, on State Road 350 in rural Dearborn County.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2006 Ford F-150, driven by Steven Witte, 46, of Moores Hill, was traveling westbound on State Road 350. Witte’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound 2017 GMC Terrain, being driven by Jordan Walters, 33, of Milan, Indiana. The vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane of State Road 350.
Following the collision, Witte’s vehicle spun around, coming to rest in the middle of the road. Walters’ vehicle left the south side of the road and came to rest down an embankment.
Witte sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a Cincinnati-area hospital for treatment. Tragically, Jordan Walters and his wife, Sierra Walters, 33, sustained fatal injuries in the collision. They were both pronounced deceased on the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.
The Walters’ two small children, who were back seat passengers of the vehicle, sustained injuries and were both transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Indiana State Police Investigators have spent countless hours investigating this tragedy over the last two months. The investigation ultimately led to the case being presented to the Dearborn/Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
As a result, Witte was charged with the following offenses:
- Two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (Controlled Substance), causing death, Level 4 felonies
- Two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death, Level 4 felonies
- Two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury, Level 5 felonies
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, Class A misdemeanor
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a controlled substance, Class C misdemeanor
Prior to these new charges being filed, Trooper Bryce Potraffke conducted a traffic stop late last week in Dearborn County, Indiana. Steven Witte was found to be a passenger in the vehicle. During the investigation that followed, Witte was arrested on a charge of Possession of over 10 grams of Methamphetamine. Witte remained incarcerated in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center until the new charges were filed this week.
Indiana State Police Investigators were assisted by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Aurora Police Department, Lawrenceburg Police Department, Dearborn County Coroner’s Office, and the Dearborn/Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office. Multiple local fire and EMS personnel assisted at the scene initially.
