Stars cruise to 5-0 sweep of Brown County

BNL’s Aden Ralston won at No.2 singles as the Stars swept Brown County on Thursday.

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence dropped only 10 games in five matches while dominating Brown County 5-0 during boys high school tennis action on Thursday.

The Stars (5-2) bounced back from a bitter loss (against Jennings County on Tuesday) with their best outing of the season. BNL posted the first team sweep of Ian Dillman’s coaching tenure.

In singles, Laedon Jones rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Jax Burt at No.1, Aden Ralston dropped Bryan Teague 6-2, 6-1 at No.2, and Levi Thompson thumped Jacob Voland 6-1, 6-0 at No.3.

“I’m super happy with this win,” Dillman said. “Brown County has the players that we have struggled with the past three matches. Today my guys were ready for it. We didn’t let our consistent opponents get in our heads.

“Aden and Levi came out swinging. Aden was struggling mentally, trying to find some energy out there. He wasn’t loud like he usually was, and I thought he was sick. Aden was able to find his composure in a different way and it was actually really nice to watch. He’s wanting to hit the ball harder, but we’ve talked about this. It doesn’t matter how hard you hit the ball, it won’t make you the best player out there. The best player is fighting on every point, every match. They never settle and always want more.”

In doubles, BNL cruised as Jackson Corey and Asher Thompson combined for a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nolan McFall and Nicklaus Arndt at No.1, while Cruz Gomez and Riley Pruett pounced on Barrett Lasley and Jax Anderson 6-1, 6-0 at No.2.

”Doubles was solid,” Dillman said. “Cruz and Riley talked the most out there. They wanted this win, especially since their loss to Jennings was so close. They wanted some form of revenge, wanting to prove to themselves that they can face these kinds of opponents and not struggle against them.

“This win was something we all needed. We want to get back on track this season and leave the Jennings match in the past.”

BNL (5-2) will visit Seymour on Sept. 3.
