INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales announced today that the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office has been named a 2026 AI 50 Award winner by the Center for Public Sector AI. This recognizes the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office as one of the nation’s leading public-sector organizations in the responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence.
The Indiana Secretary of State’s Office was recognized for its enterprise-wide AI strategy, which is improving services across the Office’s other divisions: Business Services, Securities and Auto Dealer Services. Current applications include AI-powered constituent assistance, licensing and workflow modernization, education, and the preservation of Indiana’s historical records.
“This national recognition reflects our commitment to making the services of the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office more welcoming, responsive, innovative, and efficient for the people we serve. Technology is valuable when it helps government serve Hoosiers better, protects taxpayer resources, and strengthens public trust,” said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.
Among the Office’s AI initiatives is Captain Record, which uses generative AI to make more than 20 million historical Indiana records searchable in minutes. The Office has also launched bilingual AI virtual agents to assist Hoosiers and businesses with state services and an AI-powered education system serving more than 50,000 Indiana notaries.
The AI 50 program recognizes public-sector organizations demonstrating measurable, responsible, and effective applications of artificial intelligence in government.
