East Fork White River at Seymour remains under flood warning as waters recede

SEYMOUR — The East Fork White River at Seymour remains the only local waterway still under an active flood warning following recent heavy rainfall across the region.

While minor flooding continues along adjacent lowlands and riverbanks, hydrological monitoring confirms that water levels are steadily dropping.

Current Conditions & Forecast

  • Current Level: River gauges measured the stage at 15.5 feet Tuesday morning. This places the river 3.5 feet above the official 12-foot minor flood stage.
  • Peak Crest: The waterway crested late Friday evening just below the 17-foot moderate flood threshold before beginning its downward trend.
  • Expected Resolution: Forecasters project the East Fork White River will fall back below flood stage by Wednesday evening.

Local Impacts & Safety Precautions

At levels between 15 and 16 feet, water continues to inundate agricultural fields, riverfront properties, and low-lying secondary roads throughout Jackson County.

Local law enforcement and emergency management officials urge motorists never to drive through flooded roadways or bypass road closure barriers. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles when drivers underestimate the depth or force of moving water.
