DUBOIS – Bedford North Lawrence opened with a tough 3-2 triumph over Northeast Dubois during boys high school tennis action on Monday.

The Stars swept the doubles with impressive victories. Jackson Corey and Asher Thompson cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over freshmen Logan Reckelhoff and Ross Brosmer at No.1, while BNL’s new duo of Cruz Gomez and Riley Pruett made their varsity debut with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Bentley Hopf and Levi Pankey at No.2.

”We’re happy to walk away with this win,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “These guys have fought hard and dealt with some stuff that’s out of our control – like the weather with rain and heat, and also our courts being resurfaced – that has hindered us from getting in some good practices.

“I didn’t talk much with either doubles team. I like it when I can let the guys play and utilize what we learned in practice. Riley and Cruz played amazing, they really impressed me with their play.”

BNL’s third point came at No.2 singles as Aden Ralston conquered Kole Kalb 6-3, 6-4.

The Jeeps prevailed at No.1 singles as Carson Beck bounced Laedon Jones 6-0, 6-0, while Tucker Woolems fought off Levi Thompson 7-5, 7-5 at No.3.

“I saw a lot today, a lot I liked and a lot I didn’t,” Dillman said. “This was our first match, so we can’t beat ourselves up over our mistakes. Our 2 and 3 singles struggled in their first sets, footwork wasn’t working, balls were landing short, and we couldn’t find our rhythm. Aden was able to break away in his first set and secure his victory. Laedon had the toughest match out there. His guy could hit it hard and soft.”

BNL will face Bloomington South on Tuesday.
