Voris medals as Stars finish third at Terre Haute

Emma Voris was the medalist as BNL finished third in the Terre Haute South Invitational on Saturday.

TERRE HAUTE – Bedford North Lawrence, adjusting the schedule on the fly, finished third in the Terre Haute South Invitational during girls high school golf action on Saturday.

The Stars, ranked No.16 in the latest state poll, posted a team total of 372 at Rea Park. BNL was originally scheduled to compete in the Providence Invitational, but that event was cut to a nine-hole tournament, sending the Stars to the opposite end of the state on short notice. Washington won the team title in the 14-team field with 369, while Mooresville was second at 370.

Emma Voris paced the Stars with an 84 to earn medalist honors while Sammie Nusbaum carded 87.

“Emma played solid,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “She had a few unlucky bounces and lies on the greens, but she kept the damage to a minimum. And this is her first time being overall medalist, so I’m excited to see what she does the rest of the season.”

Kadynn Canada (99) and Bella Warren (102 with a birdie on the first hole) capped the scoring for BNL.

”This invite had a lot of regional competition, and today was a huge wake-up call for us,” Stigall said. “We have to do a better job of hitting greens when we’re 30-50 yards away from the cup. We let too many mistakes happen and it cost us.”

BNL will host New Albany in their home debut (following two rainouts) at Otis Park on Monday.
