MITCHELL — Two Mitchell men face felony drug charges after officers serving a warrant at a home detected marijuana, leading to a search that uncovered methamphetamine and paraphernalia in a coffee table and bedroom.
Jason Michael Wilcoxen, 33, and Gregory Scott King, 42, are both charged with Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Lawrence County Police Officer Kenton Carter, along with Captain A. Pope and Officers A. Hogan, G. Jacobs, and Emery, arrived at a home in the 1100 block of Orchard Street on July 8 to execute an arrest warrant for a wanted individual. Upon King opening the front door, officers immediately smelled marijuana emanating from inside.
After taking the wanted subject into custody, officers secured the residence for a protective sweep and obtained a search warrant signed by Judge Nikirk.
During the search, officers examined the coffee table in the living room next to where Wilcoxen had been sitting. Inside a table drawer, officers located aluminum lids containing a white crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, alongside Wilcoxen’s wallet and keys. A glass pipe was also discovered under the couch.
In a bedroom identified as King’s, officers searched a dresser and discovered a glass plate with methamphetamine residue, a cut straw, and a small tin containing a glass pipe and additional methamphetamine. Multiple marijuana and methamphetamine pipes were seized from the property.
Both King and Wilcoxen were taken into custody following the search.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
