CARMEL – Bedford North Lawrence finished 16th in the power-packed State Preview Tournament during girls high school golf action on Monday at Prairie View.
The Stars, ranked No.19 in the preseason poll, struggled on the course that hosts the IHSAA state finals, carding a team total of 423. No.1 Zionsville won the team title with 315, followed by No.2 Carmel (323) and No.3 Westfield (325) in the 18-team field that included eight of the top 10 and 17 of the top 20 in the poll.
”Prairie View is a course that isn’t afraid to tell you what you lack in your golf game,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “Today, decision making killed us at times. We’d take a risk when we actually should’ve played it safe. And today really opened some of the girls’ eyes on how there’s times when your mishits and risks can hurt you more than you’d think.”
Emma Voris paced the Stars with 94, while Sammie Nusbaum (101), Kadynn Canada (113) and Bella Warren (115) capped the BNL scoring.
”Emma just had a few holes that jumped up at her that we have to learn to eliminate,” Stigall said. “She has so much potential to do big things, and I’m just ready to see her break out and score the ball like I know she can.”
Carmel sophomore Maya Fujisawa Keuling was the medalist with 1-over 73.
BNL will host Springs Valley and North Daviess on Tuesday at Otis Park.
