Campbellsburg teen killed in two-vehicle crash south of Bloomington identified

BLOOMINGTON An 18-year-old Campbellsburg man who died following a two-vehicle collision south of Bloomington on Monday night has been identified as George Muench.

Monroe County Coroner Jeff Hall released Muench’s identity after his family was properly notified. Hall noted that an autopsy was performed on Wednesday, August 5, to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:53 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, at the intersection of South Fairfax Road and East Dillman Road.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a Subaru carrying three occupants and a Kia operated by a single driver.

Muench was driving the Subaru when the collision occurred. Emergency responders transported him to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Two passengers were also inside the Subaru. One passenger sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

First responders utilized nearby Bloomington Speedway as a temporary helicopter landing zone. The second passenger was also treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

The sole occupant of the Kia, a 37-year-old Bloomington man, was injured in the wreck and received medical treatment.

The Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and is actively investigating the circumstances and cause of the collision.
