SEYMOUR – Bedford North Lawrence cruised to its first team championship of the season, taking the title in the Seymour Invitational during girls high school golf action at Shadowood on Tuesday.

Paced by Sammie Nusbaum’s 2-over 75, the No.19 Stars posted 364 to top the seven-team field. Seymour was a distant second with 391.

Emma Voris added a solid 86. Nusbaum fired a 1-under 35 on the front nine while finishing second to Seymour’s Shana Spray (74) in the medalist race.

”It wasn’t the prettiest win, but we’re going to take it,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “With State Preview coming up (at Prairie View), we have a lot of swing corrections to make.

”Sammie played solid again. Her hard work over the offseason is showing, so it’s going to be exciting to see what she’s capable of this season.”

Bella Warren (99) and Kadynn Canada (104) capped the scoring for BNL.

“After these two season openers, there’s a lot of things we have to work on if we want to achieve our goals,” Stigall said. “The upperclassmen especially know it’s going to take a lot more to get back to Prairie View in October.”

The Stars will compete at Prairie View (site of the IHSAA state finals) on Monday.
