BEDFORD — A Bedford woman is facing battery charges following a July 4 domestic dispute at a Bedford apartment complex, according to court documents filed by the Bedford Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to 1305 K Street around 8:05 p.m. on Independence Day in response to reports of an active physical domestic altercation. Upon arrival, police located a male resident standing in the hallway outside his apartment. According to the probable cause affidavit, his shirt was visibly soaked with liquid.
The male informed Officer Joshua Turner that Brittany Woolridge, 44, had arrived at his door and knocked loudly. When he opened the door, Woolridge attempted to force her way inside, stating she needed to speak with him.
When the male physically blocked her from entering, Woolridge allegedly became angry and threw a small alcohol bottle at him, covering him in its contents, before walking away. A neighbor called the police on the male’s behalf following the incident.
Police Interview and Conflicting Accounts
Bedford Police Captain Emmons located Woolridge down the hallway in a neighboring apartment shortly after arriving on the scene.
After being read her Miranda rights, Woolridge agreed to speak with officers. According to the affidavit, she stated she went to the male’s apartment because she believed he had somehow blocked access to her phone. Woolridge admitted to throwing a drink at the male victim when he refused to let her inside, though she identified the liquid as Dr Pepper rather than alcohol.
Officer Turner advised Woolridge that an incident report would be submitted to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office requesting a charge of battery. The male victim signed a battery affidavit at the scene and was advised on the process for securing a protective order.
A warrant was issued for Woolridge’s arrest. She was detained on Wednesday, July 22.
